Nothing that clears a parking lot fits on a sidewalk. A loader cannot get near a storefront walk, and a plow truck will take out a railing or a bollard. Sidewalk work runs on compact tractors with front blowers, walk-behind units, and crews with shovels and backpack spreaders.
It is also far slower per square foot than lot work, and it has to be scheduled around foot traffic rather than around an empty lot at 2am. Contractors who treat sidewalks as an afterthought to the plow route are the reason walkways are still packed at 8am.
Clearing is only half the job

Yes. Entrances, ADA ramps, curb cuts, landings and emergency exits are the priority scope — they carry the most foot traffic and the most exposure.
Can sidewalk service be bought on its own?
Yes. Some properties handle their own lot and bring us in only for walkways. It can also be bundled with plowing on a single contract.
Do you shovel by hand where equipment will not fit?
Yes. Stairs, landings, tight vestibules and anywhere a machine would damage the surface are cleared by hand.
How do you keep walkways from refreezing?
Cleared runs are treated after clearing, and high-traffic entrances are rechecked as temperatures move. Freeze-thaw days often need a second visit even with no new snow.
Do you clear sidewalks during the storm or after?
It depends on the property and the contract. Buildings that stay open get service during the event; buildings that close overnight are usually cleared once overnight and touched up before opening.
